ChordMate Reference

Preferences

Settings for volume, chord order, and instrument may change frequently and are easily accessible from the toolbar. Additional settings for the guitar and diagrams are located in the preferences.

Guitar

You can select right-handed or left handed guitar.

When the number of frets that the engine uses for chord generation is set to default, the engine uses the number that is typical for the selected instrument. Setting it explicitly may be very convenient if you have a non-standard guitar or only want chord voicings from lower frets. (Though the latter can also be accomplished via the Rule Editor.)

If you are an advanced player, you may be interested in chords that require a double barre. By default, ChordMate filters out all such chords because they are difficult to play.

Diagrams

To adjust the way diagrams are displayed, you can

  • change the orientation to be vertical or horizontal.
  • show fret numbers using arabic numbers or roman numerals.
  • set the style to modern or classic.
  • choose the diagram size either by selecting one of the available sizes or by using the slider on the right to set a custom size.
  • turn off shadows, which enhances visibility for small sizes.
  • show or hide root notes.

ChordMate immediately reflects any changes you make in the main window to help you find the best settings.
