Build Chord Progressions

To build a chord progression, find chords using the main window and then drag-and-drop them into the Chord Progression Window. As you search for the next chord, you may want to play some other chord from the chord progression window to see how the two chords sound next to each other or if the new chord is a better replacement. Press the spacebar to play the selected chord in the active window. Press Control - Return or Option - Return to play the selected chord in the chord progression window. (The first shortcut will play it as chord, and the second as arpeggio). Using these shortcuts will allow you to build the chord progression without switching back and forth between windows just to play the previously added chord.

There are a few more shortcuts that may speed up building a chord progression. When you want to put a chord in the chord progression window, instead of dragging it there, you can press Control - ( to add it right before the selected chord in the chord progression window. Press Control - ) to add it right after, and Control - * to replace it.

When you play a chord progression and find that you need to replace a particular chord, select it and press Find in the toolbar. This will activate the main window with the result of the search that you used to find the selected chord.

Saving Your Work

ChordMate automatically saves your chord progression and opens it when you start the program next time. You can also save it in a file choosing Chord Progression > Save and later open it via Chord Progression > Open.
