Create Chord Progressions

Quickly write down the exact chord voicings you just played before you forget or use the app to try ideas without the guitar (you can play any chord by tapping on the diagram).

Experiment with putting complex chords together without having to learn them first.

Each chord progression is a separate file, so you can continue where you left off and share your progress.

Get chord suggestions

ChordMate can suggest the next or the previous chord, as well as chord substitution. If you set the key, you can get even more suggestions.

For each suggested chord type, you can try an example of how it could sound even before trying specific chord voicings or adding filters. This allows you to experiment quickly

Find the best chord voicing

You can tap on any chord to play it, as well as play the chord within the context of the chord progression to see how well it fits with the chords around it.

When replacing a chord, you can also quickly go back and forth between the new and the original chord.

If you can’t decide between several good options, you can add a chord to stash and then pick the best one from the stash.

Explore new chord types

After you enter the root note, ChordMate shows the complete list of chord types with that root note. Tap on the left of each chord to hear an example of how it might sound. This might be especially useful for the chord types that you don’t know or use rarely.

Make chord diagrams

Tap anywhere on the diagram to add / remove a note. ChordMate will play each note as you add it, name the chord, and suggest a fingering.

You can adjust the chord name, the starting fret, the fingering, and the names of the notes. You can also quickly move the chord up and down the fretboard.

Look up chord names

While arranging or composing, you might find a chord that fits well with what you are playing but that you don’t know how to name. ChordMate can suggest a good name for it and help you find other chords that have the same notes and might be an even better fit.

Use alternate tunings

ChordMate works equally well with any tuning. You can pick from a list of common tunings or add your own.
