Writing down songs using tabs or the standard notation takes a long time because you have to specify precisely which note to play and when. Using just a text editor with chord symbols usually doesn’t provide enough detail for complex arrangements. Songs strikes a good balance by allowing you to add chord diagrams over lyrics and automatically formatting the text in a way that makes it clear what and when to play.

The macOS version of Songs is similar to the iPadOS version but provides the desktop level UI: resizable windows, keyboard shortcuts, drag and drop between apps, etc.
